First, I would like to say that This organization has given me so much and will continue to do so as I remain active as a student and beyond. I am speaking about involvement in not only the state student division of the National Federation of the Blind, but also the National Association of Blind Students. Both of them have benefits to offer.

By Alycia Howard

(Editor’s Note: Alycia Howard currently serves as secretary of the Minnesota Association of Blind Students. She is attending Minneapolis College.)

By Samantha Flax

(Editor’s Note: Samantha Flax currently serves as president of the Minnesota Association of Blind Students. She moved to Minnesota to attend BLIND, Incorporated, and is now working on her masters of human rights degree at the University of Minnesota.)

(Welcome to our second back-to-school edition. Although we are living through some desperate and difficult days, I am hopeful as I read these stories written by students and edited by Samantha Flax, President of the Minnesota Association of Blind Students. As I witness the kindness, courage, creativity, and resilience of these students, I know our Minnesota Federation family is in good hands for decades to come. I think you’ll agree. Thank you, students, for putting together another great fall Bulletin. Enjoy!)

Many people are involved in getting this issue to you. The writers can write and the editor can edit, but until the material is printed, brailled, recorded, and distributed, it is just a computer file. Therefore, we owe great thanks to the following people for the work they do in producing this publication.

The purpose of the National Federation of the Blind is two-fold — to help blind persons achieve self-confidence and self-respect and to act as a vehicle for collective self-expression by the blind.
