On Saturday, July 1, 1995, the National Association to Promote the Use of Braille (NAPUB) will sponsor the second annual braille Read-A-Thon at the Hilton and Towers Hotel in Chicago at the national convention of the National Federation of the Blind.  Last year in Detroit, over forty Braille readers from all over the nation gathered to read pledged pages of Braille reading time, and together they raised over $3600.  One half this money went to the NFB and one half went to NAPUB.

Exciting times are coming in NFB conventions.  Keep these in mind as you plan your activities throughout the coming year.

The Semiannual NFB of Minnesota Convention will be held in St. Cloud on Saturday, April 22 (the Saturday after Easter).  In March, we will send members a letter with full details.  As usual, the Metro Chapter will charter a bus from Minneapolis to the convention.

On Saturday, November 12, a seminar sponsored by the National Federation of the Blind of Minnesota, the YWCA of Minneapolis, and BLIND Inc., was held at the Downtown Minneapolis YWCA for parents of blind children.  The subject was the importance of physical fitness.  One family came from as far away as Bemidji to talk about the importance of keeping blind children just as physically active as their sighted peers.

While the parents met, the children went for a swim at the Y's pool.

As you read this, our Day at the Capitol is over and we are in the midst of another hectic legislative session.  Here is a brief summary of the NFB of Minnesota's legislative agenda for 1995:

(Editor's note:  Judy Sanders served as moderator for the Parents Seminar described in the previous article, and received this letter afterward.)

On a very sunny and pleasant Saturday morning in September, many Federationists gathered at Lake Calhoun in Minneapolis for our thirteenth annual Move-A-Thon.

Folks enjoined a leisurely walk around the lakes and brought much money with them.

Many of our members have seen this wonderful building, but for those of you who have not had the chance let me provide you with some history and information about our building.

Everybody needs a home, a place one can be comfortable in and be proud of.  The same is true for organizations.  The National Federation of the Blind of Minnesota has a new one.  Actually, our new home is a stately old mansion.
