State Match for Individual Contributions to NFB

State Match for Individual Contributions to NFB

Instead of collecting and matching pledges to the tenBroek fund at the semiannual convention as our affiliate did for many years, a decision was made by the 2021 annual convention that the National Federation of the Blind of Minnesota will, going forward, match individual contributions made by Minnesota Federationists to our national White Cane, Jernigan, Sun, and tenBroek funds between May 1 and June 30 up to a total of $6,000 (that is, up to $6,000 from individuals is matched by up to $6,000 from the affiliate treasury).

From now until June 30, your contributions to our national funds will be matched if you donate in either of two possible ways:

Donate online

Make your donation online by going to www.nfb.org/give20, and from there, visit the "Give $20 Online Donation Form". Place the dollar amounts (which can, of course, be more than $20 if you like) into the fund or funds you wish.

After you make your contribution, you will get a donation receipt by email; you must forward that to jennifer.dunnam1829@gmail.com (NFB of MN treasurer) for the affiliate to match  it. You'll get a confirmation to let you know we got the forwarded receipt; if not, please reach out.

Note that if you give online, your dollars will actually be tripled because of a match from HumanWare, and you'll be entered into a drawing for expenses to attend the 2023 National Convention).

Alternatively, you can

Send a check to the NFB of Minnesota

Make a check payable to the fund you wish, but do not send it directly to the national address.

Send the check to National Federation of the Blind of Minnesota, 100 East 22nd Street, Minneapolis, MN 55404. The treasurer will collect the checks until June 30 and then mail all the checks, along with the affiliate's matching check, to the national office.

The Funds

Here is a little more about the four funds:

White Cane Fund: These dollars go directly to the general treasury of the Federation.

Kenneth Jernigan Fund: The proceeds from this fund are used to bring a number of attendees to their first national convention. It is named in honor of our former president and longtime leader to promote attendance at the national convention, where so much inspiration and learning occur.

SUN Fund: These funds are being set aside in the event that they are needed to support the Federation during difficult times.

tenBroek Fund: These dollars go to the tenBroek Memorial Fund which owns the property at 200 East Wells at Jernigan Place in Baltimore for the benefit of blind people.

Thank you in advance; your contributions make the important work we do at all levels possible!
